TIRE WEAR: We're always asked how many tires will be needed for the 25 hours as well as other endurace events of a shorter length. Well, it depends upon: 1- the normal tire wear that your expect from your car 2- How hard your co-drivers are on the tires 3- What the weather is during the race. i.e. If it rains ALL 25 hours you can expect that one set of TOYO RA-1's will last all 25 hours! But, under dry conditions you MUST expect a lot MORE wear. If the car isn't setup very well or if the drivers are a bit too aggressive expect to change the right front every 1.5 to 2 hours in consideration that Thunderhill Raceway Park is a predominately left and turn track. A Good rule of thumb would be to figure on 4 DOT TYPE tires per every 4-6 hours. Thus if your endurance race is only 3-4 hours long a nicely set up car racing a set of 6/32nd shaved tires will last the entire race. Or just use the R-888's which are molded at 6/32nds and are a better rain tire than the RA-1. In fact some competitors can run a full 3-4 hours on a TOYO RA-1 shaved to 4/32nds! For the 25 hours 16 tires on a good handling car. But in previous years we've seen teams practicing for 8 hours prior to the race. People, people tires wear out in practice just as quickly as during the race. So, figure on USING more tires if you plan on a day of practice. Don't wait, don't hesitate. Hit your co-drivers up NOW for their share of the tire bill. Once the tires have been sold there are no returns. 707-938-9193 |
