The Sports Car Club of America has chosen the TOYO R-888 for National Club Racing events beginning in 2009. In testing the tire's performance with regard to speed, durability, lap time consistancy and drivability the TOYO R-888 was compared against other make and models of tires. Thus, in SCCA National race events the TOYO R-888 will replace the famous TOYO RA-1. The first TOYO RA-1 model tires were introduced to the U.S. market by AIM in 1992. "16 years is a record run for a DOT, R-compound tire." Stated AIM founder and owner Ron Cortez. "What an incredible tire, virtually without fault and loved by so many for so long." Yet time marches on and competitors that have used the new R-888 this season have found the R-888 to exhibit the same and in many aspects greater life-span, wet traction, heat cycling capabilities and driver control as had the TOYO RA-1 all these years. This current season (2008) the TOYO R-888 was chosen as the spec tire for the SCCA World Challenge Series, NASA's BMW E-30 as well as the Porsche Boxter Series. And all are having great success with the R-888. |
